Connecting Venezuela's Main Cities

Also known as Alas de Venezuela (Venezuela's wings), Aeropostal is a state-owned carrier that was founded by a French businessman in 1929, although it only began operating as a local airline in the early 1930s, when it was acquired by the Venezuelan government.

During the following decades, the airline expanded its domestic and international network with flights all over the American continent. Nowadays Aeropostal flies to 9 destinations, which include all the major cities in Venezuela. The only international destination currently served by this airline is Panama City. The carrier has a rather small, but reliable, fleet of 7 aircrafts and employs approximately 1,500 people.

Flying with Aeropostal

Ticket classes are divided into Y or Economy and Business. There are no First Class tickets available. When booking online, passengers are only offered standard Economy tickets, so anyone wishing to book a Business class ticket should contact the airline's call centre on +58 284 6637 or email the customer service team at reservaciones@aeropostal.com. This also applies to group bookings.

Fares are usually higher in December and January, when most Venezuelans take their holidays as this coincides with the country's dry season.

The airline's frequent flyer programme is known as AeroPass and is available in Classic, Silver, and Gold levels. Members have access to discounted rates on their birthday, during certain days of the month and on standard fares, as long as these are not advertised as online specials. Details can be found [http://www.aero
postal.com/2014/aeropass/] here, currently this information is only available in Spanish.

Practical Information

Check-in is only available at the airport, using the airline's check-in counters. The desks open four hours prior to departure for international flights and one hour and 30 minutes before departure for domestic flights.

Baggage allowance:

  • The checked baggage allowance is limited to one piece of luggage per passenger, which should not weight more than 23 kg (50 lb).
  • Cabin baggage: One piece of carry-on baggage per passenger, with a maximum weight of 8 kg (17 lb). Maximum dimensions are 56 x 45 x 25 cm ( L x W x H). A small personal item (e.g. umbrella, coat, laptop bag, women's purse) is allowed and counts towards the cabin baggage allowance.
  • Excess baggage is charged as a percentage of the base fare (1 per cent of the applicable Economy class fare).
  • More information about baggage allowances, restrictions, and lost luggage can be found [http://www.aero postal.com/2014/pregunta/] here (available in Spanish only).
