How heavy can my hand baggage be at Emirates?
When you fly with Emirates, each piece of hand baggage can weigh up to 7 kg.
What are the regulations regarding taking liquids in hand luggage?
In general, it is advisable to only carry liquids in hand luggage that are actually needed during the flight. You should therefore pack all other liquids in your checked baggage.
If you choose to have liquids in your hand luggage, the following provisions apply:
- All liquids, as well as gel or wax-like substances, may only be carried in hand luggage in containers up to 100 ml or 100 g.
- Prescription medication as well as baby food can also be transported in hand luggage.
- Liquids must be packed in transparent, resealable plastic bags (max. 1 litre), which are completely closed. Only one plastic bag per passenger is allowed.
What happens to liquids that I bought in a duty-free shop at the airport?
Liquor, cigarettes, perfume and other goods purchased in the duty free shop may be taken on the aircraft in appropriate quantities for each class. Duty-free products that you have purchased in a shop at the airport must have a purchase receipt and be sealed with security packaging, a so-called Security Tamper Evident Bag (STEB). If you want to purchase anything on board, ask the cabin crew to seal the items.
Does Emirates allow musical instruments and sports equipment as additional hand baggage?
Musical instruments and sports equipment must meet the same size and weight restrictions as general hand baggage. If you exceed this, you can book an extra seat in the cabin for your musical instrument or sports equipment. The costs for this are the same as for your own seat.
What happens if my hand luggage does not comply with the rules?
Limited storage space in the luggage rack in the aircraft means that items that are too heavy or bulky have to be checked in at the counter. These are transported in the hold - so don't forget to take your valuables, as well as important documents, identification papers, mobile phones in advance.
