Germany has a host of attractions to offer the discerning visitor. One of our favourite times to visit is between October and December, when the traditional Christmas Markets are in full swing. No one quite does Christmas like the Germans, the wonderful aromas of mulled wine and the sounds of bells ringing make this a truly majestic way to prepare yourself for the season.
Of course, Germany has attractions to offer during every season, some of our favourites are listed below:
Bonn might not be the capital of Germany any more - its brief moment of glory coming to an end in 1991 - yet it holds its head high and offers up delights such as Beethoven’s birth place, a serene riverside setting along the Rhine, and many interesting museums.
Cologne is another of Germany’s gems to be admired. Its famous cathedral dominates the skyline with its twin spires, there is a Roman wall to marvel at, and even a museum dedicated to the art of chocolate making.
The Black Forest in Germany is so named because of the dark firs and pines that make up the majority of the forest. It is the stuff of fairy tales; the Brothers Grimm based a lot of their atmospheric stories around the place. Baden-Baden is the main town in this part of Germany, a spa town visited by royalty and respected composers.
Germany is one of the major hubs of Europe, and hence a very busy destination for both tourists and business travellers. Here are some useful things to note before you make your journey.
A powerful force in Europe, Germany stands proud, straddled between Eastern and Western Europe, showing signs of both the modern and the ancient, the traditional and the subversive. The hotels in Germany reflect this juxtaposition, offering a wide variety of places to stay.
