Things to do in Mumbai

Situated on the western coast of the Indian peninsula, the beautiful, vibrant city of Mumbai is one of striking contrasts, where old meets new. Built around the city's natural harbour and with the hills of the Western Ghat forming the backdrop, this amazing region has to be seen to be believed. In addition to the beautiful scenery, visitors will discover a plethora of attractions and places of interest.

For Market Lovers And Shopaholics

Visit Colaba Causeway, a marketplace full of seemingly endless stalls. Choose from clothes, shawls, accessories, gifts and much more at very low prices. Always haggle with the seller, however, and never accept the first price, this practice is part of the local culture. Situated in a densely populated Muslim region lies Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, or Crawford Market as it is often known. Almost frenetic, this bustling market offers fruits and vegetables, clothes, gifts and is flanked by talented artisans on the streets who produce beautiful, henna handprints. Situated in south-central Mumbai lies that fabulous High Street Pheonix Mall. The shopping centre's huge tower dominates the skyline and the 3.3 million square feet contain an abundance of both local and international shops and brands.

For Beach Lovers

More than 6 km long and the region's most famous beach, Juhu is situated in the suburbs and overlooked by the Juhu Iskcon Temple. As this beach is so popular it is crowded most days, however, visitors still enjoy sunbathing and the delicious street food available. Famed for its stunning sunrises and sunsets, Gorai beach can be found in the north-eastern corner of the city. This beautiful spot is less crowded than Juhu beach and sun lovers can also sample delicious seafood from the local market.

For The Culture Enthusiasts

Visit the famous Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and enjoy afternoon tea. This fine establishment has been entertaining maharajas and dignitaries since 1903. Take in the sublime view of the Arabian Sea from sea lounge and sample some of the hotel's culinary delights. Tour Mumbai at dawn and visit one of the world's largest flower markets, Dadar. Hundreds of women sew beautiful, floral garlands at the break of day and before most have even risen from their slumber.

For The Foodies

The trendy south Mumbai is home to one of the city's finest restaurants, Indigo, which offers the ultimate fine dining experience. Rub shoulders with politicians and celebrities in the Art-Deco themed dining room and sample one of the restaurant's finest malts from its exclusive menu. Traditional Indian Cuisine is prepared by the two Michelin Star chef, Vineet Bhati, in the Oberoi Hotel's signature restaurant, Ziya. Sample the award-winning chef's imaginative menu whilst relaxing in the tastefully furnished dining room.
