About New Zealand

A little bit of knowledge goes a long way if you have never visited New Zealand before!

New Zealand is comprised of two main islands, the South Island and the North Island, as well as a number of other smaller islands. Based in the Southwest Pacific (across the Tasmanian Sea from Australia) it's capital city is Wellington and it's largest city Auckland.

Most New Zealanders are of European descent and the languages spoken are Maori & English. With a population of just 4.4 million, New Zealand is a largely unspoiled country and is one of the youngest settled countries on the planet.

It may be small but New Zealand packs a punch of a holiday destination, for all the right reasons. If you grab some flights to New Zealand you can explore volcanic landscapes, experience delectable wine tastings, or enjoy the thermal waters, mud pools, and spouting geysers at Rotarua.

Things to see & do in New Zealand

As New Zealand is based on two main islands, it would be advisable to do a bit of research before you take your trip, this will allow you to make the most of your time and assist you when planning an itinerary.

New Zealand has a huge sporting culture and it would be advisable to take in a game or two of rugby or cricket if you're lucky enough to secure tickets.

Must see spots in New Zealand

The southerly most point of New Zealand is Stewart Island, a tiny piece of quiet where you have the best chance of spotting kiwis in their natural habitat. At Rakiura National Park you can kayak and trek, listen out for parakeets, and dip into the refreshing waters.

It might not be the capital but Auckland is the biggest city in the country and is surrounded by two magnificent harbours. Visit the Auckland Museum to learn more about the Maori culture, and swim with fish at the Goat Island Marine Reserve.

Before you embark on your homeward flights New Zealand has a surprise up its sleeve – the Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers on the west coast of the southern island. You can take guided walks to get up close to the ice or even view it from the air with a skydive or on a helicopter.
