Portuguese settlers founded Rio de Janeiro in the 16th century and it has now become a world city. Its location is superb, being on the Atlantic coast. It has temperate weather, between 25 and 30 degrees celsius, all the year round. Near its famous beach, the Copacabana, you will find the Churrascaria Palace restaurant, renowned for Brazilian food. The city has long been a location for cultural events and is the birthplace of the very popular bossa nova music.
Once you arrive in Rio de Janeiro, you will have a wide range of activities to choose from, including swimming and sunbathing, shopping and eating out, and enjoying the city’s parks and gardens. At night, you can dine out, go to the theatre or go dancing and clubbing.
Various districts characterise the city, such as Santa Teresa, where historic pastel mansions reflect its colonial heritage. Ferry services run between the city and Niteroi, on the other side of the Guanbara Bay. Not only is the city beautiful, mountains like the Corcovado and Sugar Loaf surround it, providing visitors with opportunities to take excursions.
